What is a spinal adjustment?

What is a spinal adjustment/manipulation

An adjustment or spinal manipulation is a technique used to correct vertebral subluxation, defined by the World Health Organization as a “dysfunction in a joint or motion segment in which alignment, movement integrity and/or physiological function are altered”. The actual adjustment consists of moving the joint beyond its normal range of motion, but not past its designated limit. Contrary to popular myth, the popping sound that is often experienced is from the release air bubbles in the joints known as cavitations, rather than from bones cracking.
Dr. Chu’s adjustments are based on the teaching of Dr. Richard A. Gohl. Overall an adjustment will alleviate pain and tension, increase mobility, and align the vertebra. Below is a demonstration of an adjustment:

1. Dr. Chu checks the spine with instrumentation. The instrument used in our facility is the Delta-T/Nervoscope. It is a thermo sensitive device that can detect heat, which is a source of inflammation. Inflammation is a common cause of compression which will allow the doctor to determine your sight of nerve pressure.

2. Dr. Chu finds instrument readings are at specific spinal levels.

3. Dr. Chu follows the instrument reading and does an adjustment

4. After the adjustment a follow up reading should indicate a significant decrease close to zero.

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is an alternative health profession that primarily focuses on the musculoskeletal and nervous system to acquire holistic health. It is a natural hands-on approach to restore bodily functions and align the spine. Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body!

In Loving Memory
March 30, 1926- Oct. 6, 2012

Dr. Gary Chu’s mentor, Dr. Richard A. Gohl, passed away in 2012 after a struggle with leukemia. He will always be remembered as a pioneer in chiropractic care. Below is a poem written by Dr. Gohl in 1994, letting his loved ones know that he will be taken care of after his death and not to hold on to their saddness.

The Last Word is Not the Last Word
Don’t feel sad when my time has come,
I lived my life with faith and fun.

I loved each day with a wondrous joy,
I didn’t use life like a playful toy.

I knew I would be judged there by my deeds,
So I tried to be kind to one’s needs.

I don’t always do the things I should,
I don’t obey all the rules the way Christ would.

But I put God first in my daily prayers,
Because of his Son who made me aware.

He made me know of his loving hand,
I know we were made in his master’s plan.

I tried to live God’s laws as Christ said we must,
By serving others without man’s lust.

I am ready for life in a different way,
I won’t have to live by man’s rules to obey.

For what God has in store I really don’t know,
But my faith is in Him, I can’t do any more.

MAY GOD GO WITH YOU AS YOUR FRIEND
